Sleep Swannies feature an orange amber lens because this tint is highly effective at reducing blue light in the 400 to 500nm range.
The relationship between light and colour is based on wavelength. Blue light sits in the shorter wavelength portion of the visible spectrum. An orange or amber tint filters a larger portion of these shorter wavelengths compared to clear or lightly tinted lenses.
When combined with Swanwick’s anti reflective coatings, the orange lens is designed to significantly reduce blue light exposure in the evening, including wavelengths commonly associated with melatonin suppression.
Clear blue light lenses primarily rely on surface coatings and typically reduce a smaller portion of the blue spectrum. They are not designed to provide the same level of evening filtration as orange lenses.
Because Sleep Swannies are intended specifically for nighttime and pre bed use, the orange amber tint is intentionally chosen for this purpose. They are not available in alternative colors for the Sleep range, as lighter tints would not provide the same level of blue light reduction.
